GRR (Grid Resistance Regulator) consists of forced air cooled grid resistance for the speed control of slip ring motor. When resistance is inserted in the rotor circuit of the slip ring motor; the torque-speed characteristic of the motor is stretched towards left. This decreases the slop of the stable region of the characteristic. The load equilibrium point gets disturbed and stabilizes at new point at lower RPM and the same load torque. Thus by increasing the external rotor resistance speed of the motor can be decreased practically up to 50% of the rated speed.
